Wave Swell Energy holds protected IP’s across multiple global regions.

WSE’s innovative technology comprises an oscillating water column (OWC) coupled with a unidirectional turbine which features a unique power take-off system (PTO). The technology has been proven in a multiyear system demonstration over a full range of ocean conditions, at King Island, Tasmania. This is a world first.

Patent applications for WSE’s technology were filed in 13 countries or regions of major commercial interest, and patents are now granted in Australia, Chile, China, Europe, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea, and United States.

Whilst each patent application needs to undergo local patent examination steps in those jurisdictions, it is pleasing to note that the WSE technology configuration of an OWC and its associated electricity generation equipment, has always proven to be novel (or new) when compared with any previously known inventions which have attempted to use an OWC for power generation purposes.

WSE has also developed extensive unregistered IP in the form of trade and business secrets, knowhow and show how making it difficult for third parties to copy the technologies of WSE without this information.

While the physical structure is important, the intrinsic value in the IP lies in the integration of all components to achieve optimal performance of the energy conversion system – structural design, turbine dynamics, valve sizing, generator performance, and advanced control software. WSE has in-house proprietary know-how which represents unregistered IP.

In essence, WSE’s IP is not what can be seen or measured in steel and concrete, but the embedded knowledge, validated tools, and control software that integrate the entire system into a reliable, efficient, and safe energy-producing asset.
