In big news – so big The Guardian reported on it – CSIRO researchers have found that wave energy machines will make Australia’s energy system more secure and reliable. (They’ll also bring down the energy transition’s cost, too.)

It’s an important finding. While wind and solar are essential pieces of Australia’s energy puzzle, both need support from complementary technologies to ensure the grid has enough energy at all times. Batteries are part of the solution, but with the skyrocketing cost of lithium, Wave Swell is working hard to ensure wave energy can play its part.

CSIRO’s study assessed three locations on Victoria’s southwest coast, and concluded that the predictable nature of the ocean will help complement more variable wind and solar.

It’s an exciting finding, and progress for all of us that believe in wave energy.
